Biography:
I am entering my 33nd year of coaching high school football. While in college I served as a volunteer coach at my high school during spring practice and in the fall before I reported to camp. During the four years working at my high school I was convinced that I wanted to be a high school coach. I played under Coach Ken Gibler at Missouri Valley College. As a 3 year starter I was fortunate to receive many honors. I began coaching in 1990 at Houston High School where I served as the defensive coordinator. After three years I left Houston to become a head coach at Mark Twain High School for three years. I was fortunate to be a part of the school’s first district championship. Montgomery County High School was my next stop where I spent four years where we would capture two conference championships and two district championships. It was at this point where I was beginning to gain a reputation for rebuilding programs. Clinton High School offered me a head coaching job and it would become the first school that I was not a part of a district championship. I left Clinton for Warsaw High School where I would become the offensive coordinator. We could go on to win 5 straight district championships and one quarter final appearance (If Coach Smith would have made one cut late in the game we would have made it to the semi-final game). I left Warsaw to take the head coaching job at Concordia High School.
