Tigers Win: 14 - 6
The 7th grade Tigers added another victory to their season last Thursday night by beating the visiting Lebanon Yellow Jackets 14-6. The game was dominated by both defenses early until midway through the first quarter when Tau Asi broke off right tackle for the Tigers and outraced all defenders to the endzone for the games opening points. Bishop Godwin connected with Mason Perez for the successful 2 point conversion to put the Tigers up 8-0. That scored held until halftime. In the second half, the Jackets couldn't get their running game going but did manage to connect on a big pass midway through the 3rd quarter when the Jacket receiver got behind the Tiger secondary. The TD pass went for 40 yards but the 2 point try failed and the Tigers kept the lead at 8-6. Both teams continued to play very strong defense and held each other from scoring until late in the 4th quarter. The Tigers were forced to punt from their own end and Mason Perez came up huge with a booming kick that flipped the field. A Yellow Jacket player made a critical error and attempted to pick up the rolling punt but mishandled it. The Tigers recovered the live ball and took over with a new set of downs. That's when Franklin Myers broke off a brilliant run from his fullback position. On 3rd and long he broke past the Jacket defensive line and bobbed, weaved and bowled himself down inside the Jacket 5 yard line giving the Tigers a new set of downs by moving the chains. On the next play with momentum on their side, Bishop Godwin ran a naked bootleg from his quarterback position for a touchdown. The conversion attempt failed and the Tigers kicked off to the Jackets up 14-6 with less than 2 minutes to play. The Jackets attempted to pass the ball on their final drive but the Tiger defense shut it down and iced the victory. The Tigers move to 3-1 on the year and will travel to Camdenton next Thursday (10/11) for their next contest.
Thursday night was another dog fight for the Waynesville Tigers 7th grade Football B Team. The Yellowjackets roughed us up and scored first half on a run to the outside. The rest of the game, however belonged to the Tigers dominant defense and valiant offense. Ilija Alavanje had a quite interesting game as he lit things up at linebacker, later switching gears to play some offense. He showed much character jumping in at fullback and making all kinds of noise, all while wearing a hard cast on his arm. Maverick Davis did a fine job filling in for the versatile Alavanja. Keowne held down the mid field at linebacker, while pulling double duty at offensive tackle. Shay Sinitiere managed everything in front of him at Safety, managing to get us an interception; while also playing offense at wide receiver. A variety of circumstances required the 7th Grade Tiger Football staff to get quite creative to convene all the correct moving part to keep the ship sailing. Running back Washington got us marching, but exhausted his allotted playing time. Franklin “The Ghost” Myers stepped in at running back and picked us up a Tiger touchdown on a magnificent run to tie up the game. After Elijah griffin got banged up at quarterback, Julian Vargas stepped in and kept the Tigers on the prowl. After Myers had to leave the game early due to injury, Vargas had to move back to the tailback Douglas “Douggie Doug” Figueroa showed great poise filling in at QB at a time of pandemonium. Vargas and Figueroa we’re switching positions from play to play on the last drive of the game, 0 time outs and about 75 seconds of regulation time left in the game. It was the hammer Michael Derr who played some shut-down corner earlier in the night as well as tight end the entire game. A completely exhausted Derr and Tigers offense lines up for one last play around the 25 yard line. Vargas takes the snap, rolls out, connects a perfect ball to Derr. Derr leaves it all on the field as he finds the end zone. Vargas tacks on his second two point rushing conversion on the evening. The automatic Tigers defense shuts down the jackets for one last play of the game. Fields, Henson, and company dealing with a last-minute offensive line assembly, did a great job helping those guys with assignments, and never seemed to get tired or let up. The Tiger coaching staff always thinks when these boys can’t impress us anymore, things like this happen. We can’t wait to see what we can do this Thursday in Camdenton against the always solid Lakers.

Tigers Win: 20 - 8
Last night the 7th grade "A" team Tigers hosted the Lewis & Clark Middle School Trailblazers at Slaughter Field. Most of the first quarter was a defensive struggle with both teams feeling each other out. The Tigers managed the first points of the game on a Jonathan Hedrick interception returned for a touchdown. The Trailblazer quarterback was under heavy pressure from the Tiger defense which led to the errant pass. The Tigers were unable to tack on the 2 point conversion but took the 6-0 lead and kept that lead going into halftime. Coming out of halftime, the Tigers received the kickoff and promptly cranked out a sustained drive dominated by long runs by Kaiden Cruz. Cruz's nifty moves and the gaping holes created by the Tiger offensive line led by Demetrius Shells resulted in another touchdown. The 2 point conversion was again unsuccessful but the Tigers increased their lead to 12-0. The Trailblazer offense stayed with their passing attack in the second half and scored on a long touchdown pass when their receiver got behind the Tiger secondary. They managed to cap the touchdown with a conversion to close the gap to 12-8. Momentum seemed to swing to the Trailblazer side and their defense rose up stuffing the ensuing Tiger drive. Facing a 3rd and long and not wanting to give the ball back to the inspired Trailblazers, Tiger quarterback Bishop Godwin ran for the first down on a brilliantly executed bootleg play. This key play got the ball out of Tiger territory, a new set of downs and a chance to chew up more clock. Ultimately, that drive stalled and the Tigers were forced to punt. Mason Perez who had punted fantastic all night pulled off another long punt to pin the Trailblazers deep in their own territory. The Trailblazers now behind and running out of time tried to keep the passing game going but the Tiger defense led by Tau Asi, Cameron Cooper, David Fullington and Triston Wallace put constant pressure on the Trailblazer quarterback. The Tiger secondary led by safety Rayshaun Fowler and cornerbacks Tyrell Phinn and Elijah Griffin put the clamps on any hopes of the Trailblazers scoring throught the air. Facing 4th and long from inside their own 20, the Trailblazers tried one final time to get the ball down the field with a pass but with all the receivers covered and no one to throw to the Blazer quarterback was sacked for the turnover on downs. The Tigers iced the victory with another rushing touchdown by Cruz and the conversion was successful with a Godwin to Perez pass. Final score: Tigers 20 Trailblazers 8.
The next game for the Tigers will be against the Thomas Jefferson Middle School Patriots in Jefferson City next Thursday Sep. 27th.
The B team Tigers walked away with their first home win of the season last night. However, it was Lewis & Clark Middle of Jeff City who scored the first touchdown and 2 point conversion of their first drive. The Tigers answered back with a dominant drive and touchdown by Darian Washington, who scored later again in the night. Julian Vargas scored the 2 point conversion with a little help from Trey "The Pain Train" Terry with the boost. Trey had his best game yet as of rushing and blocking. The offensive line was very consistent the entire night, paving the way for a total of 4 touchdowns and a pair of 2 point conversions. Elijah Griffin threw a beautiful ball in the endzone to tight end Michael Derr. Griffin showed his mobile skills by following up with a QB keep for the 2 point conversion. Franklin Myers showed his impressive running game as he managed to slip through the defense in a teleporting fashion, earning him the nickname, "The Ghost." The Defense held the Trail Blazers to minimal yardage all night. Brawley Keown and Maverick Davis seemed to be a nuisance for Lewis and Clark the entire evening, keeping the quarterback on a constant scramble. The Tigers keep impressing their coaching staff, as every game they stay very coachable and their improvement is always on the rise. We travel to Jeff City next week to take on their other middle school team across town, Thomas Jefferson.

Tigers Lose: 6 - 6
A tie isn't as sweet as a win, but the B team Tigers made us proud regardless. We had two quarterbacks see some playing time, Julian Vargas and Elijah Griffin. Both guys were lights-out, but it was Elijah who scored our touchdown in the first half on a QB keep. The receiving corps was also involved highlighted by a 20yd reception by tight end Derr who punished blockers at the end of it. Our front five O-Line put out a tremendous effort the whole game, and that's the main reason we lead the entire game until the last 2 seconds of the 4th quarter. They paved the way for Darian Washington, who rushed all up and down the field last night. Credit has to go to our defense as well. They held Jarrett most of the night thanks to our front four clogging things up and our secondary cleaning up the leaks. Bishop Godwin was automatic at corner the entire night as well as or linebacker crew. I couldn't ask more of what we got out of our guys in their first game of the season. It's exciting to think about what we can build off of.

Tigers Lose: 14 - 20
The 7th grade Tigers traveled to Bolivar last night to start their season and took a 20-14 loss. The game was dominated by both defenses early as neither the Tigers or Liberators could generate much offense. The Liberator defense scored the opening points of the game by sacking Tiger quarterback Bishop Godwin in the Tiger endzone. The Liberators struck again on the ensuing kickoff as they returned it for a TD. Their 2 point conversion failed. With a 8-0 Bolivar lead, the Tigers took to the air on their next possession as Godwin connected with Jonathan Hedrick on a 67 yard TD pass. The Tiger conversion failed. With an 8-6 lead the Liberators started a ground and pound game that scored a touchdown right before half. The halftime score was 14-6 Bolivar. The Tigers attempted to regroup at halftime but still couldn't get a consistent running game going in the second half. The Liberators were able to move the ball on the ground and took a 20-6 lead going into the 4th quarter. Late in the 4th Godwin went back to work with his aerial assault and struck Mason Perez for a touchdown and Rashawn Fowler for the conversion to close the gap to 20-14. After Bolivar recovered an attempted onsides kick they were able to run out the clock and secure the win.
The Tigers next contest will be next Thursday (9/13) at Jarrett middle school in Springfield.
