Tigers Win: 28 - 24
Waynesville (5-3) showed its resiliency on Friday with a come-from-behind 28-24 win over Glendale (4-4) on the road. Things could not have started worse for the Tigers, as they fell behind 16-0 midway through the first quarter. First, the Falcons took an early 8-0 lead. Then, Glendale fought through the protection and blocked a Waynesville punt in the end zone for the safety, as the Falcons extended the lead, 10-0. On the Falcons’ next possession, they scored on a 39-yard touchdown, and were in control. And then the Tigers defense went to work. The Tigers front seven had had enough, as they dug their cleats into the turf, came off the ball, and found themselves pounding the Falcons’ QB and WRs like a jack hammer on the street. With the defense crashing the backfield and showing discipline on gap assignments — especially on all of the slip screens, bubble screens, and slot screens being utilized by Glendale — it was time for special teams to go to work. After setting up textbook blocking, and a proactive approach by the punt returner, Danyl McCullough sprinted to the ball, juked defenders and scampered his way 35 yards for the Tigers’ first score at the 3:11 mark of the second quarter. Glendale went 3-and-out on its ensuing possession, giving added life to the Tigers. So, Tigers JR QB Michael Lewis called his own number. Lewis took the rock off-tackle, evading defenders as he sprinted for the 54-yard touchdown — showing great field vision and awareness and patience as he hit the open lanes.  The Tigers refused to relent, as they went into halftime down 16-14. With one minute remaining in third quarter and still down two points, once again, the Tigers defense came up big, as Deron Anderson intercepted the Watts pass, and weaving down the field 70 yards to the Glendale 6-yard line. Lewis called his number again, going off-tackle left for the score, as the Tigers had their first lead of the night, 21-16. With the team needing to move the chains at two separate occasions down the stretch, again, the Tigers were open to the challenge. With six minutes remaining, the Tigers arranged a nine-play drive, capping with Soph RB Eric Richardson’s 44-yard touchdown run on 4th down and 6. The Tigers defense forced another Glendale turnover six plays later, as SR DB Leroy Lane came up with the pass deflection on 4th down. As the Tigers looked to close out the win, they needed one more play as they were facing a 4th-and-5 from the Glendale 35-yard line. The Tigers called on Freshman RB Evander Bradford to seal the game. Bradford was briefly stopped in his tracks in the backfield, paused, and then busted through 7 Glendale defensive players and gained the first down. Glendale came into the game averaging 37 points per game, and the Tigers defense shut down one of the area’s more prolific offenses. The Falcons outgained gained the Tigers on offense, 323 yards to 306, but the Tigers came up with three turnovers and scored on special teams: balancing out the Week 8 attack and complementing the offense. Next up for the Tigers is a SR Night regular season finale as Waynesville (5-3) hosts the Parkview Vikings (1-7). Friday October 25, 7 pm kickoff. Other Top Performers Soph DL Jamarion Fane – 9 total tackles, 3 sacks, 5 QB hits Fresh DL JaShawn Mabry-Lyles – 9 total tackles, 2 sacks, 5 QB hits SR DB Deron Anderson – 8 total tackles, 1 INT, 3 pass break ups SR LB Ian Williams – 8 total tackles, 2 sacks, 5 QB hits SR DB Kevin Poinsette – 12 total tackles, 3 tackles for loss JR QB Mike Lewis – 10/11 passing for 81 yds, 12 carries 64 yds 2 TDs Soph RB Eric Richardson – 6 carries 41 yds 1 TD SR WR Jaylen Andrews – 5 receptions 54 yds
Tigers late rally falls short against the Zizzers

Tigers Lose: 19 - 35
Tigers late rally falls short against the Zizzers Friday night the Varsity Tigers football team welcomed the challenge of shutting down the #4 ranked West Plains Zizzers at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers defense stood tall throughout the game, accepting and meeting the challenge head on with outstanding play. The Tigers offense got into the flow of the game after coming out of halftime, scoring 3 touchdowns to keep the game in reach. West Plains scored on a short run on their first drive of the game. The Tiger defense had a bend but don’t break mentality that put the Zizzers in long down and distance situations on three occasions of the first drive. A 7-play drive for West Plains ended with a 7 yard TD run for the opening score. The Tigers offense sputtered coming out of the gate, going 3 and out on their first possession. After punting to West Plains, the Tigers defense made West Plains earn every yard of the second possession. A 13 play drive that saw the Zizzers score on a 2 yard TD run bumped the score to 14-0. Once again, the Tiger offense came out and sputtered to a quick 3 and out for the second time. Late in the 1st quarter, the Zizzers were on the verge of blowing the game wide open, but the Tiger defense put their foot down by holding the Zizzers scoreless for the remainder of the 1st half. The Tigers offense caught fire on their third possession. The Tigers went on an 11 play drive and found themselves going for it on 4th down and goal at the Zizzers 2 yard line. West Plains defense held strong and forced a turnover on downs. The first half came to an end with West Plains holding on to a 14-0 lead. The Tigers offense made their adjustments at half time, and they paid off fast! The Tigers took the opening kickoff and three plays later, SR RB Shen Butler-Lawson to a handoff 66 yards for a TD! SR Kicker Aaron Choi tacked on the extra point to put the score to 14-7 Zizzers. The Tigers defense was sparked by the offensive success and came out and forced a turnover on downs on the very next drive. The Tigers offense sputtered throughout the remainder of the 3rd quarter and the quarter ended with the score 14-7. The pace of the game picked up in the 4th quarter. West Plains scored a touchdown early to push the score to 21-7. The Tigers kickoff return unit fumbled the ensuing kickoff, and the Zizzers were able to recover and capitalize in just two plays. Just like that the Tigers found themselves in the hole 28-7 with over 10 minutes remaining in the game. West Plains took over after another 3 and out by the Tiger offense, and the Zizzers gave the Tigers a taste of their own medicine as they scored their final touchdown in a 3 play drive that was highlighted by an 82 yard screen pass for a touchdown. Down 35-7, the Tigers offense was able to score touchdowns on back to back possessions. A 9 play drive that was capped off by JR QB Mike Lewis running in from 5 yards out. The Tigers kickoff team were able to execute the onside kick and recover the ball following the touchdown. A 7 play drive by the Tigers offense was capped off by a 12 yard TD reception by SR WR Josh Ash. The Tigers missed the extra point after Lewis’ TD run, and the Tigers failed to convert on the 2 point attempt after Ash’s TD reception setting the score at 35-19. The ensuing onside kick was recovered by West Plains and the Zizzers ran the clock out to close out the game. Up next for the Tigers (4-3) is a showdown in Springfield against the Glendale Falcons (4-3) for a game that will set the Class 5 District 5 playoff top seed. The winner will have home field advantage for the District Playoffs which start Friday November 8.   Other Top Performers   SR RB Shen Butler-Lawson – 14 carries, 89 yds 1 TD Soph RB Eric Richardson – 3 carries, 53 yds, 10 total tackles SR WR Jaylen Andrews – 3 receptions, 54 yds SR FS Josh Ash – 15 total tackles, 1 reception, 12 yds 1 TD FR DL JaShawn Mabry-Liles – 12 total tackles SR LB Maurice Fiame – 13 total tackles SR LB Ian Williams – 13 total tackles
Tigers win instant classic over Rolla!

Tigers Win: 49 - 35
The Varsity Waynesville Tigers football team rolled into Rolla with a 2 game winning streak and a (3-2) record. After a classic battle the Tigers rolled out with a 3 game win streak and a victory over the Bulldogs for the first time in 5 years. A back and forth affair started with the Tigers defense holding the Bulldogs offense on the opening drive as Rolla attempted to convert on 4th down. That change of possession lead to the Tigers offense having great field position, and 6 plays later the Tigers scored on a 35 yard TD run by SR RB Shen Butler-Lawson. Butler-Lawson would score on 4 rushing TDs on the night adding the other scores all in the second half. It was a back and forth affair the rest of the way in the first half with both teams exchanging TDs taking a 21-21 tie into halftime. The Tigers second offensive possession was capped off by an electric 59 yard TD run by JR WR AJ Martin late in the 1st quarter. The Tigers third TD came in the 2nd quarter with JR QB Mike Lewis tossing up a 19 yard pass to JR WR Jared Hyatt who made an acrobatic catch as he skied over a Rolla defensive back to haul in the ball. The second half started with the Tigers offense marching the ball right down the field on a 13-play drive that took almost 7 minutes off the clock. The drive brought about Butler-Lawson’s second TD run of the night from 7 yards out on a 3rd and goal. That served to be the only score of the 3rd quarter for the Tigers, but the 4th quarter brought about major fireworks! On Waynesville’s next offensive possession, Butler-Lawson scored from 45 yards out as he out raced the Bulldog defense down the left sideline.  On the next Rolla possession, the Tiger defense made another stand and forced the Bulldogs into a 4th and long requiring a Punt attempt. A faulty snap by Rolla, and mass Punt block attempt from the Tiger defense, lead to a short 12 yard distance for the Tiger offense to score. Waynesville converted on the very next play with Butler-Lawson scoring on his 4th rushing TD on the night! With a 2 touchdown lead late in the 4th quarter, the Tigers all but had the game won, but the Bulldogs had one last push left in them. Rolla drove down the field and scored once again to bring the score to a one possession 42-35 ball game. Rolla attempted an onside kick that was recovered by Waynesville SR WR Saul DeHart. The Tigers began to run the clock out and put the game out of reach for good when JR QB Mike Lewis ran off the right side for a 38 yard TD to seal the game 49-35! The Tiger defense stepped on the field one more time and held the Bulldogs on 4th down with just under 2 minutes remaining in the game, and the Tigers took two kneel downs to run out the clock. Next up for Waynesville (4-2) is a home game vs the defending Ozark Conference Champion West Plains Zizzers (5-1). It will also be Military Appreciation Night in Tigers country. Tigers run into Tough Lebanon Team

Tigers Lose: 0 - 35
Week 3 of the regular season rolled out with the #10 ranked Lebanon Yellow Jackets coming to Waynesville. The Tigers battled hard but struggled to find a solid offensive rhythm, as they fell 35-0 to the Jackets Friday night. The Jackets’ first possession was a short 2 play drive that was capped off by a long TD run down their sidelines. The Tigers followed up with a quick 3 and out possession on offense, before the Jackets went on a 13-play drive that ended with their second TD of the 1st quarter. Lebanon took a 21-0 lead in the 2nd quarter, and carried that score into the start of the 2nd half. The Tigers offense sputtered for most of the game, struggling to get into a true rhythm. The 2nd quarter brought multiple opportunities for the Tiger offense to score on deep passes that were just out of reach or off the fingertips of Tiger receivers. The 2nd half brought similar frustrations, as the Tiger offense turned the ball over on their first possession, stalled on 4th down on their second possession, and added another turnover on their third possession. Lebanon would manage the clock and run it down to zeros as they sealed the Tigers fate and dropped them to (1-2) on the season. Next up for Waynesville is a trip to Springfield for a week 4 matchup with the Hillcrest Hornets (0-3) Friday September 20, 2019. (7 pm kickoff)   Top performers for the Tigers: SR DB Kevin Poinsette: 15 total tackles, 2 tackles for loss SR LB Ian Williams: 7 total tackles SR LB Maurice Fiame: 7 total tackles, 2 tackles for loss SR DB Josh Ash: 8 total tackles SR Kicker/Punter Aaron Choi: 1 touchback, 2 punts, Net avg. 40.5 yds

Tough Start for the Tigers at Camdenton   The 2019 season kicked off with high anticipation for the Tigers football team, as they opened up Ozark Conference play at their longtime rival Camdenton Lakers. The Lakers entered into the season ranked #3 in Class 4 in the state, and the favorite to win the Ozark Conference. The Tigers come into the season with high expectations to make a push for their first Conference title since 2007. With a loaded roster of talented athletes, Waynesville rolled into Camdenton with a high level of confidence. The first half was a physical battle between both schools. The Lakers scored a TD in the first quarter off of a wild scrambling pass from their QB.
