Tigers Lose: -
The Class 2, District 5 golf tournament was held today at the Lake Valley Country Club in Camdenton. The Waynesville Tiger's lone representative, Senior Victoria Hooker finished in 9th place with a 95 and will move on to the Class 2, Sectional 3 golf tournament at Whispering Oaks golf course in Marshfield on Monday, October 2nd.
The weather was a little warm, but the course was in excellent shape. Victoria played well in spurts and putted extremely well on very fast greens. On the greens today, a 3-putt was as good as a 2-putt on many other courses. The slight undulations around the holes and the speed of the greens made putting tough. She shot her worst score of the season, but may have played her best golf on the last 5 holes to salvage a 95 on a day where qualifying scores were as high as 110.
Victoria was very displeased with her round overall, but excited about the results of qualifying for sectionals a 3rd straight year. She is hoping to take the next step to qualify for the state tournament 9-10 October.

Tigers Lose: -
The Waynesville Lady Tigers traveled to Osage National tonight to take on the School of the Osage, Southern Boone and Blair Oaks in a quadrangular golf meet. The end of the regular season ended hot as the temperature hovered into the low 90's. The girls endured and we saw some really exciting golf. The Blair Oaks Falcons came out on top with a very good team score of 186, followed by Southern Boone 196, Osage 217, and Waynesville 238. The medalist was the Falcon's Paige Luebbering with a 6 over par 42. The Lady Tiger's Senior Victoria Hooker came in second with a 44.
Victoria played with some back pain tonight, but battled through it and had an okay night. She was able to finish second on a night when she was not at her best. This is a very good testament to how far she has come over the last year. Her hard work in the off-season has prepared her well to endure a sore back, heat, and a very tough walking course. This should help her next week at districts as she attempts to make the top 15 at districts for the third straight year, something that has never happened for a Waynesville Lady Tiger. She had a very good Senior year and we wish the best for her at Lake Valley next Monday.

Tigers Lose: -
The Waynesville Lady Tiger golf team traveled to Eldon to take on the Eldon Mustangs tonight. This was the first ever match for the Tigers at the Eldon Golf Club. The Mustangs won the dual meet with team score of 213 to Waynesville's 231.
The course liked Senior Victoria Hooker or should I say she liked the course! A quick eagle and birdie on holes 1 and 2 had her off and running tonight. She played very steady and relaxed as we worked on course management. Since neither of us had seen this course, we were able to really talk about each shot from tee to green. She was steady through the rest of her round and finished with a 2 over par 39 on the par 37 front nine.
Other Tiger scores were Paition Quinones 62, Dara Huynh 62, and Brielle Amick 68.
The Lady Tigers last match will be at Osage National on Thursday, September 21 for a meet with the Osage Indians.

The Waynesville Lady Tigers participated in the Ozark Conference Golf Tournament today at the Schifferdecker Golf Course in Joplin. The rain and hot weather stayed away and the course was very fair tee to green. It added up to a very pleasant day to see who the best of the best were in the Ozark Conference.
The tournament was won by Camdenton with a team score of 360 and the 2nd place trophy went to Glendale with a 372. Individual medalist was, once again Amber Wilson of Camdenton with a 1 over par 72. The lady Tiger's Senior, Victoria Hooker, was named to the 1st Team All Conference squad finishing 4th place by tying her career low with an 82.
Hooker was focused early on, but ran into trouble on 4 consecutive holes in the middle of her round. She pulled herself out of the trouble by refocusing and finishing strong. She followed our game plan for her today and it resulted in her best score in the Ozark Conference Tournament. Victoria possess tremendous talent from tee to green, but just like most of us, her short-game has hurt her. Today, she really tried to think about the right pitch shot to hit and was very conscious of the type of club she chose around the greens. Most of the greens at Schifferdecker are very small compared to some of the courses we play and getting the ball to land and stop where she wants it can be tricky. I am very pleased with the progress she made today as we finish the week with 2 night matches at Eldon and Osage in preparation for the Class 2, District 5 tournament on Monday, September 25. Her willingness to be coachable and making good course-management decisions will be crucial at the district tournament.
The Lady Tigers will next play tomorrow night at Eldon in a triangular match with Eldon and Osage.

The Waynesville Lady Tigers played at the Oak Meadows Country Club in Rolla today versus Rolla. Rolla only had 3 players, so today's match became an individual match of sorts. Victoria Hooker was the low scorer with a season low 37. Rolla's Audrey Collier had a really nice round of 39 as the 2nd place finisher.
As a team, the Tigers scored their low round of the year with a team total of 210. That is 40 strokes better than their performance Tuesday versus Lebanon. Paiton Quinones had a season low 55, Dara Huyhn had a season low 59, and Brielle Amick had a season low 59. It is the first time in quite a while that I have had 4 players shoot below 60 in the same round. The other Rolla scores were Marliere Toothacker 46 and Jesse Coverdell 59.
The Tigers next play at the Ozark Conference Tournament on Monday, September 18 at the Schifferdecker Golf Course in Joplin.

The Waynesville Lady Tigers participated in the MSU Relays Golf Tournament at the Bill and Payne Stewart Golf Course in Springfield today. The course was in the best tournament shape it has been in for the last 3 years, so we were able to play the ball down to get practice for our upcoming District tournaments. The tournament was won by Springfield Catholic with a team total of 370, narrowly edging out West Plains by 1 stroke. The individual medalist was Amber Wilson of Camdenton with a 2 under par, 69.
Senior Victoria Hooker led the Lady Tigers with her career low round of 82. All the other Lady Tigers also came in with their personal bests. Junior Paiton Quinones 116, Senior Dara Huynh 129, and Junior Brielle Amick 135. I set a goal for each girl and a team goal of 460 before play and we came within 2 strokes of meeting that goal at 462. It is the best that all the players have played at one time this season as we have improved 29 strokes over the last team tournament. The girls chipped and putted better today on greens that were similar to our home course. I didn't see too many putts get away from them as we have in previous matches.
I have been setting lofty goals for Paiton Quinones each match to try to challenge her to score better. She has played well, but hasn't been able to get her scores down. Today, she was more consistent and was able to achieve her best career score.

The Waynesville Lady Tigers played in a dual match tonight versus the Lebanon Lady Yellowjackets at the Great Life Golf and Fitness in Lebanon. The day was cloudy and cool and made for great golfing weather. The weather suited Lebanon well tonight as they shot their season low team score of 225 to Waynesville's 250. Waynesville's Victoria Hooker was the meet medalist with a 12 over par 48. This was her 2nd straight meet medalist honors. The other Tiger scores were Juniors Paiton Quinones 63, Brielle Amick 71, Alexis Lowe 68, and Mackenzy Lowe withdrew due to illness.
The ladies have remained consistent this season in all their matches. I am seeing much better ball striking from tee to green, but our scores haven't seen improvement. They work hard at practice and know that it takes a lot to become competitive at matches. Their attitudes are tremendous and they have built great team spirit. If they keep working hard, I hope to see them rewarded with each of them being able to lower their scores by seasons end.
The Lady Tigers will next play on Thursday, September 14, at the MSU Relays in Springfield.

he Waynesville Lady Tiger golf team hosted a quadrangular match with Rolla, Dixon, and Crocker today at the Piney Valley Golf Course on Ft. Leonard Wood. The course was in great shape as it was prepared for their club championships this weekend and made for a great setting on the Tiger's Senior Night. The meet was won by Rolla with a team total of 220, Crocker second at 227, Waynesville 238, and Dixon came in with a 254. The Tiger's Senior Victoria Hooker was the meet medalist with a 41.
Hooker got off to a slow start after hitter her tee shot into the water. She soon settled down and nearly had a hole in one on the par 3, 3rd hole and tapped in from 8 inches for birdie. After a beautiful 240 yard drive down the middle on the long par 5, 4th hole, she placed her second shot near the green. She followed that with a crowd roaring chip in for an eagle, 3. I have tried to stress to her the last two seasons that she is never out of a hole or a match due to her shot-making ability. It was great to see her play well tonight after a bad round on Tuesday.
During out pre-match briefing I commended the Dixon and Crocker teams for building their programs to field full teams after a few years of not being able to. Our ladies really enjoyed playing with both teams as they both have a great bunch of ladies that my players really enjoyed playing with. After our match, all four teams got together to celebrate our two seniors, Victoria Hooker and Dara Huyhn. It is really awesome to get to see high school sports teams sit down to pizza and cake and enjoy each other's company. I big thank you to the coaches and players from Rolla, Dixon, and Crocker for making out senior night that much more special.
The Lady Tiger's have a busy schedule next week as they play at Lebanon, Tuesday; the MSU Relays, Thursday; and at Rolla, Friday.

The Waynesville Lady Tigers participated in a triangular golf match today with the Camdenton Lady Lakers and Rolla Lady Bulldogs at the Lake Valley Country Club in Camdenton. Cool temperatures and lots of sun made the evening very enjoyable. The Lady Lakers came out on top with a team score of 183, followed by Rolla with a 236 and the Tigers in at 248. The meet medalist was Amber Wilson of Camdenton with a 1 over par 37.
Senior Victoria Hooker was the low scorer for the Lady Tigers with a 47. She didn't have her best stuff tonight, but she fought through it and still was able to record her 3rd best score ever at Lake Valley. Other Tiger scores were Junior Paiton Quinones 60, Senior Dara Huynh 69, Juniors Brielle Amick, McKenzy Lowe, and Alexis Lowe all with 72's.
I saw a lot of good execution on the course tonight from the things we are working on in practice. The ladies iron play is improving due to more consistent swings and the chipping is coming along better than expected. It was the first outing of the season for Junior twins McKenzy and Alexis Lowe. They both worked very hard tonight to transfer their practice to the actual course during competition. Their scoring isn't there yet, but many of the key components to lowering their score is definitely there. They both commented that they have a better understanding of why we practice the swing and short game each and every practice. Once they get to the green, they realized that getting the ball into the 4 inch hole is still a challenge.
The ladies will next play on Thursday, 7 September at Piney Valley on Ft. Leonard Wood. It will be senior night versus Rolla, Dixon, and Crocker.

The Waynesville Lady Tigers participated in the Jeff City Helias Lady Crusader Invitational today at the Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield. The weather was terrific as well as the golf course. The tournament was won by Columbia Rock Bridge with a team score of 345 and for the second straight tournament, Amber Wilson from Camdenton was the medalist with a 3 over par 75.
My lady tigers were able to field a full team for this tournament. Senior Victoria Hooker placed tied for 9th place with an 85, Junior Paiton Quinones shot a 122, Senior Dara Huynh shot a 140, and Junior Brielle Amick shot a 144. Hooker displayed a much improved demeanor during her round today. She began by 3 putting the first hole for a triple bogey, but didn't let that bother her as she played the final 17 in 10 over.
I was pleased with Amick's effort today. It was her first 18 hole tournament and she had moments when it looked like she wanted to give up, but she hung in there. We were playing double par today, so she wasn't able to get below double par on any one hole. The grit and determination on each swing was a coaches dream. She has only played for 4 weeks and each day she is getting slightly better. She played with a wonderful group of girls from Southern Boone and California who were understanding and patient with her today. She learned a lot and wants to work hard at practice to get better.
The ladies will next play at Camdenton on Tuesday, September 5th for a match with the Lady Lakers and Rolla Bulldogs at the Lake Valley Country Club.

The Waynesville Tiger Lady golfers opened their season today as they participated in the Lady Laker Invitational golf tournament at the Lake Valley Country Club in Camdenton. The weather was perfect all day as the awesome August weather keeps blessing our golfers with cool temperatures. 22 teams competed with the Columbia Rockbridge Bruins taking the team title with a score of 344. Camdenton's Amber Wilson was the individual medalist with a 3 under par 69.
The Lady Tigers only had 2 players eligible today, so we didn't have a team score. The season has started off well for senior Victoria Hooker. Some middle of the round putting woes produced an 86, good for tied for 12th overall. I can really see the improvement in her game this season. She is on or around the green for birdie on nearly every hole. As the season progresses, many of those attempts will likely result in par or better. Like a lot of the players today, she had a few holes she would like to have another crack at as she had 3 double bogies. I had to keep reminding her that this was her first match of the season. As I have mentioned before, she is such a perfectionist and competitor that she never wants to score poorly on any hole. I really like her attitude and that is what keeps her scoring in the top 15 in tournaments.
Junior Paiton Quinones got back into action today by scoring a 121, placing her 81st. Paiton's swing has come a long way over the last year. She is doing extremely well from tee to green, but the putter wasn't friendly to her today. We discussed how we would work on a consistent routine on the greens and that will help her tremendously. She has an awesome attitude and really tries had on ever shot. I am expecting her to greatly improve over the next month and score much better at our district tournament, which is at the Lake Valley course.
The Lady Tigers will be in action again on Wednesday, August 30th, as they play in the Helias tournamnet at the Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield.
